Why is understanding physics and the general rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
Philosophy is the study of ideas, truth, nature and the meaning of life. Whereas Physics is the study of science that handles matter and energy and the way they act with one another. Without both playing a role within each other, many physicists would not be able to question the science of matter and energy. Also, the nature of philosophy cannot be properly pursued without the reality of physics. As many physicists have been taught and have learned to calculate and solve problems rather than ask questions about those problems being answered. Both play a huge role within each other and in my opinion in most cases physics would not accelerate into the mere science it is today without the questioning of the ideas of philosophy. Philosophy not only brings "idea's" to the world or science, but brings a great attention to detail. Philosophers want clarity and answers to reasons why. As a physicists if the mere objections were to just solve problems and calculate you could be sufficient however, if one were to think and understand theories and make new ones as a philosopher might think, you could be greater.
What is eliminative materialism?
Eliminative materialism is a claim that our deeper understand, our common sense of the mind is wrong. Basically stating that we do not have minds and there is no such thing as fear, hopes or beliefs. As an example, I am sure there are many of us if not all that have a fear. A fear in which we have developed and as we have that so called "fear" we would do anything and everything from being anywhere close to it. Well eliminative materialism is claiming that, that "fear" is not true, eliminative materialist believe only in the physical state of mind not our mental state. Another example: Many of us have believed what the weather man has stated before right? That it might rain, well if one were to believe that it is raining, normally we would get something to make sure we cover up or get an umbrella. That is our mental state of mind thinking and not the physical state. So in a lump sum eliminative materialism is stating that all of what our mind processes and normally form in the mind, does not exist, just as witches do not exist.
