Why is understanding physics and the general rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
-The understanding of physics and the general rules of the universe helps paint a bigger picture, the perspective just gets bigger with both. Physics is the study of matter and energy. philosophy is the study of fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence. In other words with the help and knowledge of these two things put together helps us have a better knowledge of nature, reality, and existence.
What is eliminative materialism?
-Definition: Eliminative materialism- people's common-sense understanding of the mind is false and that certain classes of mental states that most people believe in do not exist. One of the common sense classes of mental state is called "folk psychology". Folk psychology is a theory about human behavior. A few examples of human behavior such as hope, emotion, thinking, desire etc. are considered the laws of human behavior. Eliminativist argument with folk psychology is that the arguments from the theory need to be proven, and examined more closely. Furthermore, we would need to know more about a person's behavior and how it relates to the mind, common sense can't be the only reason as to how the human mind thinks and works.
