Why was Socrates sentenced to death?
He was executed because, according to accusers, his teachings were corrupting Athenian youth. He was also accused of not believing in gods that were recognized by the state. He had introduced new gods in his teachings, which was looked down upon. I believe that people just feared what they did not understand, which is a big reason why Socrates was sentenced to death. While society was living in a way where they all obeyed the same rules and followed the "right" ideas, Socrates came up with his own guidelines and introduced new ideas to his own followers.
Why is there conflict between science and religion?
In religion, the reason for phenomena in the world is that there is always a higher power or force (more specifically, a god) pushing these things to happen. In science, the simple explanation for these phenomena is nature itself. According to science, we are nothing more than matter in this infinite universe. When it comes to religion, people are always thinking there is a bigger reason as to why we were placed on the planet, whereas scientists believe that we were placed here because of science itself and that we are just a tiny piece of matter in the universe.
