Why was Socrates sentenced to death?
Socrates was sentenced to death because of two aspects. First, he does not believe in God, and he thinks philosophy prepares for death. Like the book stated that he thinks "philosophy itself is nothing else than a preparation for and meditation on death. This idea contradicts with his friends. Second, he was corrupting the youth of Athens. He taught them his beliefs. They did not like his belief of a non-existence of god, so he went to trail. While he was defending himself, he still holds his ideas and beliefs. Finally, the judge and jury decided to sentence him to death because he was “corrupting” others which would cause more problems. They gave him two roads, either go to prison or drink the hemlock prison. Because Socrates knew that he could not educate anymore if he was in prison, so he decided to commit suicide by drinking the hemlock poison.
