1. Why was Socrates sentenced to death? Socrates lived from 469 B. C. to 399 B. C. He believed it was important to to pursue knowledge for all of your life. Socrates was sentenced to death for corrupting Athenian youth and for acts of piety. The Two acts of piety Socrates was accused of were: "not acknowledging the gods of the city" and "introducing new gods" The citizens of Athens did not like that he did not honor their gods, therefore upsetting a lot of people . After going through trial Socrates was eventually sentenced to death where he had to drink poison hemlock. Socrates died in the company of his friends.
2. Why is there conflict for some between Science and Religion? There is conflict for some between Science and Religion because both sides feel strongly about what they believe in. Science is more about being able to provide proof while religion is based more upon faith. These two topics often clash because of that mere fact in my opinion. A great example would be on the topic of God. Science cannot prove that God exist so in order to believe God exist you must have faith. Another example of the conflict is described in the reading Matter Vs. Spirit as "being primarily stemmed from linguistic confusion over what the term matter means and what it implies".

I agree with your answer to the second question. Many of the ideas in any religion cannot be proved using concrete evidence. Science has a clear algorithm to proving a theory and that is done through the scientific method. You ask a question, do some research, construct a hypothesis, test out hypothesis, collect and analyse data from experiment, and reject or accept hypothesis based on data. For some of the things in religion, like you mentioned God, there is no raw data to analyse in order for us to accept or reject our hypothesis. It is however important to know that some beliefs in religion can be proved scientifically. For example, in certain religions certain herbs or foods are believed to be beneficial to pregnant women, something that could be proved is dis-proved using science.

Yes, science and religion have strong feelings in what they believe in. This makes them become conflict. Science is based on hypothesis and experiments to prove things exist in the world. However, they cannot prove the existence of God, so they do not believe God exists. This is so true and religionists believe because of their faith. Also, I think we need to obey what the bible says without doubting for the religion field, unlike the science field, we can doubt and do experiments again to see if it is correct to obey. This makes scientists do not like religion because they cannot doubt. Many investigations are investigated because of scientists’ doubts and investigations.
