1. Explain the virtual simulation theory of consciousness.
The Virtual Simulation Theory of Consciousness explains the thought that everything we see is not actual reality. In other words this theory states that what we see is processed by our consciousness and what we actually see might not actually be what is occurring or occurred. Consciousness uses out thoughts senses, emotions, self awareness and what we perceive to create something that seems real. If person A sees something occur person b may see something completely different. In Disneyland of Consciousness, we see a people ride one of the Disney attractions. During the Pirates of the Caribbean a man convinced that everything was real needs another person to tell him that it is not real. It is comprised of mechanical figures to create the illusion of reality.
2. How does the brain trick us and for what benefit is it for our genetic survival Be sure to support your answers with references to the required readings and films
We are tricked by our brain to believe a reality that is not actually real. I do believe this is a survival reflex. Viewing something as real can make us cautious and allows us to avoid danger. In the film "Brain Burn: Consciousness as a Virtual Simulator", it explains “our awareness is ‘in’ our head, it doesn’t have to face the very real and empirical and deathly consequences of being ‘without.’ Also, from the reading, Is the Universe an App, it is stated that “the brain tricks us into believing its own machinations as something that is not,” proving that my reality would be different than someone else’s and that we both may be experiencing something that is in fact unreal. Believing in what we see will give us a sense of security and reduce the possibility of harm that can come to us.
