Why was Socrate sentenced to die?
First, a trial and execution of Socrates took place in 399 BC to determine his outcome. Socrates was tried for not one,but two different charges: corrupting the younger generation/ lack of reverence for god and most importantly for the act of failing to acknowledge the Gods that the city believed in. I can see how during a time like this speaking out about your own beliefs rather than following what other believe are true can get one into some trouble. The older people are harder to convince, but the youth with a fresh outlook could be dangerous and that is what the people believed that the youth would be manipulated of Socrate’s beliefs and everything that they had worked for would be trashed. I was said that the Greeks use to tell their people make believe stories about adventures and gods to help others understand the world better, I always wonder this to be true when it comes to other aspects of life.
Why is there a conflict (for some) between science and religion?
I believe this to be a sensitive topic for some, the conflict between science and religion will always be individual. People who have grown up religious know nothing else otherwise and it would be impossible to talk someone out of their beliefs. As for some who like more direct answers and facts rather than “fantasies” have all the evidence in the world as to prove why their are no gods, but this world was created through science and evolution. It is difficult to speak to anyone about this topic whom isn't biased about it. For some it is difficult to believe in someone who has never been seen such as god that created everything and for others when given facts it is much easier to understand that there is a really good chance that science was behind it all of this time and not a god.
