Week 9-10 Essay Questions
1. Although the thought of computers becoming thousands of times more powerful than they are in todays world may seem a bit daunting, I do feel like artificial intelligence will be overall beneficial to the world and will not become a catastrophic problem for the world. According to the Kurzweil video, computers will be able to revers engineer the human brain and computers will be able to perform all functions of the brain. This will ultimately result in computers being theoretically smarter than humans. I think that this can will be used for the benefit of humankind instead of its demise because humans will use this incredible technology to understand not only more about the human brain, but possibly answer complicated questions about the universe and discover new scientific explanations. Also, us humans are the creators of these machines and it goes without saying that the aim for buildings these machines should not be to make machines more powerful than humans, but to compliment humans in their daily lives.
2. Technology has affected my life greatly in a multitude of ways. First and foremost, I am a person who thinks technology is a fantastic thing and feel like it has only enhanced my life, unlike many people today who may feel technology may become too powerful and invading. One way technology has affected me is through the fact that it allows me to learn so much about the world in a very short period of time. One of the best examples of this is Siri. I find it fascinating that I can ask a question about literally anything to a handheld device and it can give me an answer within seconds. To me, this access to knowledge is something that has only enhanced my overall intelligence. Technology has also allowed to me to become more informed about the world. Through platforms such as social media, I can connect with people around the world and learn more about their cultures and way of thinking. This is important because it will give me an advantage over those that do not have the ability to connect with people around the world and I will have gained more knowledge that could prove to be useful in a world that is becoming more international.
