Do you think artificial intelligence will be a significant problem in the future?
I actually believe that artificial intelligence has already begun to be a problem now and cannot imagine what it would do to our future. We have so many things that have already taken away. Our right to privacy with social medias like, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and many other social media websites. Professor Lane said it perfectly in the Digital Philosophy book when he stated that "all we have to do is bundle varying components together and we turn the private world public." (DP, 1) Have we not already done that? Has not social media and Google already done that? We have made our lives an open book for everyone to see. It actually made me think of the movie, I Robot. When we as a society basically became lazy and set in our ways to have artificial intelligence to do everything for us and because we allowed it to take over who we are as humans, the artificial intelligence robots took over and threatened our existence. Is that something we want for our future? We as a society are not doing enough to prepare ourselves for the coming up of artificial intelligence. Why is it so needed to have machines become smarter than we are? Especially when they can have the capability of easily threaten our existence as humans. What can possibly be done when "we are being hijacked and don't even know it." (DP,8).
How has technology impacted your life?
Growing up in the 80's technology had already started to advance. But no where close to the advancement it has today. I believe recent generations have not been able to concept the core ideas of having to do things for themselves rather than have a computer do it for them. Such as checking out a library book, write a letter, develop photographs or as simply as changing the channel on a television. This generation has lost the whole core concept of what makes us human. By being able to do things for ourselves rather than a computer telling, showing or doing it for us. If only we could "change the state and you change the questions that appear to matter so much to us." (DP,34) Especially when it comes to the major advancements of technology and what it will do to us in the near future. To this day, I prefer to do things myself then of what a computer could do for me faster. I feel as if living in today's society, I have lost all pf my privacy I should be able to have as a American. I lost the privacy of where I live, where I go to school, employment, my children, what they look like, my spouse etc. The list can go on and on. But when will I get that privacy back? Never because as technology advances so fast every year so, more and more of who I am continues to go away. We all have lost who we are as humans because of social media. We end up becoming the "500 million sentient people entrapped in the recent careless thoughts of a Harvard sophomore.” (DP,4) That is not a life I want to live. Would you?
