Week 9
Do I think artificial intelligence will be a significant problem in the future? I believe that it can be a great thing in the future but I also believe it will bring us some problems along with it. According to the film we watched “Ray Kurzweil,” he talks about being an optimistic person and that he supports artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence would advance many things and help us in defense but it is like he said “technology is a double ended sword and what we do with technology can be dangerous.” If we advance in technology and use it for defense in our military, other countries will begin development on bigger and better ways to use Artificial intelligence. I think if artificial intelligence was so easily accessible to everyone it could be quite dangerous. It could potentially be harmful health wise if one could use artificial intelligence to do everything no one would exercise. The video “The Codex Funeral” talks about how we as people are becoming very impatient and there is an increase in attention deficit disorder. And these problems are only because we have smartphones. Imagine if artificial intelligence was at our fingertips we would be a society of robots.
Week 10
My life is impacted by technology every day. I was born into the era where technology first started to grow into something big. When I was a little kid cell phones were starting to become used more widely and the internet was something people could use more at home. On vacations or somewhere unfamiliar people would look at maps or use the internet and print out directions now it’s right at their fingertips or built into their cars. Technology is now what’s relied on instead of the paper facts. Everything is impacted by technology. When I watched the video “Ray Kurzweil” they said technology is gaining power every day and “computers are going to be very powerful in 20 more years from now.” And I don’t doubt that it will be with our growing knowledge technology only has one way to go and that is up. In modern technology it allows us to communicate with people all over the world through multiple different social media networks. But technology is also disabling us of in person contact. Communication skills are lacking because of it and so much more. I know because I am a shy person and I rather hide behind a screen to talk to someone because for some reason it is easier to say something than when you have a person standing in front of you.
