Do you think artificial intelligence will be a significant problem in the future? How has technology impacted your life?
Based upon my previous beliefs, and after watching the film, and skimming the required reading. I came to the conclusion that artificial intelligence will be a significant problem for mankind in the future. My fear is that as technology evolves we will cease the evolution of the human mind. Not so much for those who challenge their minds to develop technology but more so for those who are the consumers of technology. If the human mind becomes so dependent on artificial intelligence, what happens to our pivotal consciousness, will we ourselves be hungry to seek out new information, or will we simply allow to technology to navigate and answer the questions about the universe for us. There is no doubt that technology has become one of the greatest sources of information of our time, and is a tool of convenience, but keep in mind that a human mind developed the artificial mind. Technology only evolves as much as we evolve it. Technology is a man made facet, but what happens when technology makes man? What happens when we are no longer required to use our minds, or communicate and challenge the minds of one another. It would appear that the only human minds that will be exercised or challenged will only be the human minds that continue to develop technology.
Technology has impacted my life both negatively and positively. When I reflect on how many things I do everyday that require the use of a technological device it is almost hard to believe, versus when I was a child or when my parents were growing up. I use technology for transportation, communication, I use technology for both my professional and personal life. I have often had to catch myself, I will watch myself sit in a room with another human being and we are both totally engrossed with our phones. We are so concerned with computation of a device we are not even interested in understanding one another or the computation of our own minds, and that is a negative impact that technology has had on my life. For this reason, I write my thoughts as much as I can, not on a computer but by hand I do my best to challenge my own mind to compose an answer before I resort to “Google,” or another search engine. I want my children to come to me and still be fascinated with the facets of my mind, instead of turning them away to a computer for the answer to life. Who is better fit to answer the questions of life, outside of a species living. How can technology dictate and control our lives when we in fact have given it life.
