How did Socrates die?
Socrates was sentenced to death in 399 B.C for breaking Athenian Law on two accounts. The first charge brought against Socrates was for not believing in the Gods that the people of the land believed in. The second charge was corrupting the youth with his Philosophical teachings. Socrates was before a jury of 500, he was given three hours to present his case in defending himself. Socrates claimed that he did not intentionally mean to "corrupt" the youth. After hearing the accusers and Socrates case, the jurors voted to find Socrates innocent or guilty. By Athenian Law, jurors placed a small disk marked "guilty" or not "guilty" in an un marked urn, Socrates was found guilty.Socrates was given the opportunity to suggest his own punishment but he sarcasticly suggested he be "rewarded for his actions". Socrates was sentenced to death by drinking poison Hemlock, His execution was carried out at a jail nearby where he drank the poison Hemlock and died.
Why is there a conflict (for some) between science and religion?
The topic of science and religion is a sensitive one because people feel very strongly about both sides. There is evidence to support both science and religion. As stated in “The Great Mystery: Matter vs Spirit,” it is said “matter itself was and is as mysterious and as glorious as anything conjured up in our spiritual imaginations.” Scientist are always trying to find evidence on our existence, how our begining really started, as they do not believe our world started as it says in the Bible. For the people that believe in religion, they believe that our world started exactly as stated in the Bible. Science and Religion are two diffrent worlds. Religious people believe that we came from Adam and Eve. Scientist believe we came from Apes. In the end, science will never believe in religion and vice versa.
