1. Do you think artificial intelligence will be a significant problem in the future?
Artificial Intelligence is intelligence expressed by machines and/or software. Artificial intelligence was created and intended to make human life more convenient. There are software that are computed to identify objects, answer questions, and carry out the user (human) command(s) such as "siri" on the iPhone. Some speculate that artificial intelligence can and will be detrimental to the human race, however, I do not agree with this notion. We need to first remember that these artificial intelligence systems are created by humans and thus will always rely on the intelligence of humans for existence. This debate is a very hot topic in the healthcare field as well, particular pharmacy. On one of the spectrum, supporters of artificial intelligence argue that pharmacists can be replaced by cost-effective dispensing machines . While I believe that these machines can be beneficial and time effective, I definitely take the opposing position. Pharmacist do more than just count pills for dispensing; they analyze medical histories, take physical examinations, assess drug interactions, and cosign or correct the prescription of the physician. Artificial intelligence cannot carry out the all the necessary actions of humans but can offer assistance in making tasks more efficient. I believe that if us humans continue to use artificial intelligence within the guidelines of it's intended use of aiding and not replacing human efforts, that it can continue to be beneficial.
2. How has technology impacted your life?
Technology has impacted my life significantly. I rely on technology to carry out many of my daily functions e.g. to wake me up on time, take me to unfamiliar locations, to work/ do homework etc. I also use technology to communicate or "stay connected". Though I am grateful to be apart of a generation in which the use of technology is an option, I am still battling between whether the impact of technology is more positive or negative. I say this because I feel that the accessibility of technology in this day and age gives me the excuse to be "lazy". I feel like I do not have to work as hard on any given task because I can just revert to technology. In education for instance, technology allows for us to have easy access to information and provides us with the tools necessary to take be successful in an online philosophy class. On the other hand, I personally believe that I learn best with hardcopy texts, handwriting information repeatedly, and physically being in class. But for those of us who have extremely busy schedules and can only afford time to take online courses, technology is very beneficial. When it comes to social media and like technology, I feel that today's generation reliance on technology is preventing us from developing necesscary social skills. Many lack conversational skills because we are so used to "sending a text" and just "liking" words or images on social media. Even though it seems that we are constantly in communication, no one is truly communicating; it is very impersonal and disconnected.
