1. Explain the virtual simulation theory of consciousness.
The virtual simulation theory of consciousness is that our consciousness is a virtual reality simulator. We can use our consciousness to act out situations that we would not normally par take in, within reality. For example, as stated in Is The Universe an App? by the MSAC philosophy group “Consciousness is a fantastic virtual reality simulator and because of its inclusivity an insular engineering it has an inherit tendency to believe its own machinations as exterior to itself and not as the byproduct of its own interiority.” In other words, since we believe what our consciousness is doing when it is doing it, it works out to be a great virtual reality. We can act out a situation and ponder all the possible outcomes with no real consequence, while thinking that everything that is happening is real. In conclusion, virtual simulation theory of consciousness is that our consciousness is virtual reality for the mind.
2. How does the brain trick us and for what benefit is it for our genetic survival?
The brain tricks us by making us believe that something is not. This is best described in Is The Universe an App? by the MSAC philosophy group, “In other words, the brain tricks us into believing its own machinations as something that is not.” The brain does this to keep us alive long enough to reproduce. The brains trickery benefits us, so we last long enough to continue our genetic line and so we do not go extinct. I personally do not think this as trickery, but more as a defense mechanism. We may see it as trickery from our brain, but is it not just the brain defending itself for survival. Such as, a porcupine raises his spikes to defend off predators for survival. This is similar to the brain tricking us for the same basic act of survival and continuation of the genetic line. The brains trickery is a defense mechanism.
