1. Explain the virtual simulation theory of consciousness.
Our consciousness is a virtual simulator and because of this it has a tendency to believe its own things that may not be real in real life. It is said that in the readings the world that we see, touch, and hear around us is not what it appears in our own minds. It is also said that what we see or feel or touch also influences our decision making because it creates its own risks and benefits for the virtual environment in our own minds. The video "Brain Burn" is a good example of the virtual simulation theory of consciousness because it explains how when approached by situations where we have to make decisions it talks about how we can think about the benefits and consequences to the decisions being made. We can play out the scenario in our minds before we make this decision and risking any kind of bad decision to ourselves.
2. How does the brain trick us and for what benefit is it for our genetic survival?
The brain can trick us by creating illusions in our head that are not real in reality. This can help us because most of the time when we are tricked we are scared of this illusion and the outcome so it motivates us and our survival when needed. Just like improved vision during near death experiences. There are many stories of people who lose consciousness in the real world and during this time they see some kind of sign such as a light, or god, or maybe a loved one who might have already passed and sometimes seeing these things allow them to come back to the real world. In the book "Cerebral Mirage" it talks about the same scenario. It talks about this boy who is near death and loses consciousness, he ended up seeing a bike he was promised for his birthday and this vision brought him back to his body and woke him up. It is said that our brains just like our physical and mental genes are programed to survive and to reproduce and to be passed on through genetics through generations and generations. Our brains can trick us to whatever it may take just so that we can survive.
