1. Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave?
By definition, evolution is a thought process in which different kinds of living organisms have developed and since diversified from earlier forms of life. The theory of evolution is important in understanding how humans behave because it provides explanations and information of past experiences and behaviors that have evolved and shaped the present day human. For example, organisms are thought to have evolved physically because of certain behaviors. An example of this is found with Darwin’s study of the finches on Galapagos islands, Because it was in these finches behavior to eat certain foods, these beaks of these finches evolved into different shapes to better adapt to the food being eaten, thus classifying finches with different beaks as different species.
2. Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer?
Personally, I believe that evolution cannot answer the questions of existence. Yes, evolutions states that humans have derived from earlier forms of life, but the question to me still remains: where did these earlier forms of life stem from? Who created the life that evolved in to present day humans? That leads me to believe that there must be a higher power that created life in the first place, something more substantial than the theory of evolution. To me, it makes more sense to believe that God created humans and all other types of life to coexist here on earth. The probability behind evolution, as demonstrated in the film “Magic of Evolution: Daniel Dennett’s Card Trick Analogy”, seem to be too unreliable to provide the definite answer of life.
