1. Why is understanding physics and the general rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
Physics and the generalrules of the universe go hand in hand with studying philosophy. In the book Quantum Weirdness it says that physics is part of this predictable universe and that it gives us an opportunity to help navigate our lives through a handful of events. In order tounderstand the nature of knowledge, our existence, and our reasoning; then we need to first understand how the physics of the world we live in. Physics allows us to bring down the reality andactual matter of our lives in order to help us understand the philosophy around us. As physics progresses, so will it continue to bring clarity to the study of philosophy. Once the understanding of physics, and physics big mysteries are solved, it will, in my opinion, help the understanding of philosophies biggest mysteries as well. In the film ‘What is Matter? The Magic of Physics,’ it really shows us the importance of atoms and how things are more than they really appear. A book isn’t just a book, it wasat a point a tree, and then what is that tree? Matter is continuously being broken down. This concept and mindset allow philosophers to study and make sense of important questions in life.
2. What is eliminative materialism?
Simply put in the first video of Eliminative Materialism, if one phenomenon can not be explained fully and comprehensibly by mathematics, then one turns to physics. If that conclusion is incomplete, then one turns to chemistry, then biology, then to psychology, and then sociology. The second and third video of Eliminative Materialism give us a spiritual perspective. It takes into consideration demonic and spiritual reasoning, but doesn't eliminate itself to just that. From my understanding of the films, eliminative materialism is taking all sorts of science and perspective into consideration in finding reasoning in a certain complex situation or phenomenon.
