1. Why is the theory of evolution so important in understanding how human beings behave? The theory of evolution is important because it indicates that all species are related through same genetic material. The genetic code within species can also resemble similarity among other species. Darwin soon introduces something new to his philosophy called “natural selection” as described by Darwin in the reading, “May be more properly understood as natural elimination and anything that can survive that global and unending process is because of such survival to continue on”. He continues on to explain that anything that survives can tell us from the environment in which it came from and the competition to reproduce(pass on genetic code). Therefore, by understanding Darwin’s theory of evolution, it provides a clearer understanding on human behavior and how we are always evolving in order to survive.
2. Which questions do you think evolutionary theory cannot answer? One question I feel evolutionary theory cannot answer is how the DNA code originates. The DNA code is a system with letters. As stated in the reading,The DNA Of Consciousness,"every strand of DNA contains a unique history of its journey and what must have transpired to shape it into its present incarnation". My question, therefore, is how did the creation of DNA come about without somehow it first being created?
