1. Why was Socrates sentenced to death?
Socrates was sentenced to death because he was found guilty by a jury of Athenians of two crimes. One was corrupting the youth with his teachings. The other for not believing or acknowledging the gods that the people of Athens believed in, according to his accuser Meletus. The majority of the jury made up of 500 citizens found Socrates guilty. The vote was 280-220. After the jury voted for the punishment, the majority voted punishment to death. Which in those times was to drink a cup of poison, made up of hemlock.
2. Why is there a conflict (for some) between science and religion?
Conflict between science and religion has and is a very touchy subject. For me I believe in both. Like in the literature “The Great Mystery” Matter vs Spirit?, when it says about the process of eliminative materialism, if the phenomena cannot be explained by mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, sociology, etc. , then God did it. That passage, makes science vs. religion like if it can’t be explain by one then the other can. The conflict is there for some mostly because science tries to discredit religion and religion tries to discredit science. But I believe both can coexist.
