Why is understanding physics and the general rules of the universe so important in doing philosophy?
Understanding both physics and the general rules of the universe blahhhh. Physics is the science that follows the study of matter and its motion through time and space, and philosophy is the study of the fundamental nature of existence, knowledge, values, reason and mind. Bohr described these two concepts in his book, "Quantum Weirdness," as, "“two aspects of a description that are mutually exclusive yet both necessary for a full understanding of what is to be described." Philosophers are able to use the concepts of physics in understanding the problems of the universe, in turn being able to solve those problems. Being able to understand philosophy starts with an understanding of everything else in the universe.
What is eliminative materialism?
Eliminative materialism explains that people's common sense and understanding of the mind is false. It claims that we as humans do not have minds, and denies other mental states such as hope, belief and desire. All things can be proven through science, and if not, then can be accredited to a god, thus falsifying concepts people make up that do not follow either of these motions. For example, some believe that sickness or disease is caused by spirits, when in reality, it is caused simply by bacteria or viruses. Under eliminative materialism, an explanation can always be given for anything.
